A Great Quote

From Ansuya:

"Sometimes when I share belly dancing with another woman it's as if they have stumbled upon the missing aspect to their creativity and their wholeness as a woman, which they have been looking for all their lives."

Izmaragd is Back!

I danced at the Pagan Pride Day Fundraisor Dessert Nights this past Saturday and it was a blast! Yes it's spelled correctly...it was a night of pychic readings, belly dancing, and all you can eat desserts.

I have not danced like that in ages. I don't know what it looked like from the audience, but I felt like I was on fire. Everything I did was improvisational and it felt fabulous. I was in no pain back, foot or otherwise. Thank you Heather for the tiger tyedyed silk veil...it worked out to be the perfect tribal Goth veil.

I danced to a mix of track 3 -an industrial feel with a single woodwind- and Flava Laguna's techno Aria from the Fifth Element Soundtrack. After that I danced to Bella Fleck's Sinister Minister -a slinky Jazz piece- followed by Bette Middler's I Put a Spell on You from Hocus Pocus. I can't wait to see it on DVD...hope they finish it soon!

Ah yes and I danced the night away once again as Izmaragd!
Izmaragd (Eez ma rod)is actually a Russian name that means Emerald. I believe the correct Russian pronunciation is Eez zoo ma r(trilled r)ed , but I like the more Turkish sounding pronunciation Eeezmarod with a slight trilled r.

Izmaragd is my dancing persona in the SCA and outside of it. I am shy by nature. I enjoy watching and studying people. Izmaragd gets me out of my shell and into the mix of things and people and life. I've been really so down with the back and foot injuries that I haven't been indulging my little Turkish Goddess. Bad me. But she's out again with avengence..he he he.

I also got a rune reading done by a small elf looking old man (kinda looked like Gus Gus!) who had the royal blue swami hat with an obnoxious sparkly broach in the middle of his third eye. It was so silly I just had to sit down...hey it was free! He actually gave me some really good info and pegged some of my major issues. All I can say here is that 2006 is going to be my year! ...about fracking time :)

I can Hubub With the Rest

Yep bored at work and taking another silly test.
"Just a narcissist ...everywhere I go ...people just want to be me"
(to the tune of Just a Gigalo)
I just really liked the look on this chika's face.

The Librarian
You scored 71 erudition!
Congratulations! You're well above average when it comes to your knowledge of English grammar, history, and literature. You may have missed a few questions, but if you keep your studies up and stay away from genre fiction, we'll have you ready for Stanford in no time! Who knows, we just might be reading your columns in Talk of the Town a few years from now.

I'm not sure where this picture comes from, but I just think its fabulous!

Pagan Pride is coming up in Indy... they are having a Belly Dance and Pychic Reading Night on Jan 28th. I'm thinking of dancing, but I'm not sure if I am really ready to perform again. I'm going to Aegela's Turkish/Egyptian seminar this weekend in Ann Arbor MI, so I hoping that will rejuvinate my interest. I've been down lately. The world seems to keep turning no matter what I do, so I'm just trying to keep up with it all. I keep volunteering for things like this and registering for classes...I'm always happy when I finally arrive at the event...it's just the space in between that's hard to fill.

The Yoga is helping with my back pain and the plantar fasciitis when I can motivate myself to do it. I just need to keep the momentum going. Work is just getting more drab as I go. I've been at my current job for amost 4 years now. I'm losing respect for some of my coworkers and higher ups. Thats a bad sign. I still feel that my job is very important and the products we make are crucial to the health of people, I just don't have the drive to advance in the company. Its not what I really want to do for a living.

Ok thats enough self indulgent self awareness for now ;)

So my new years aspirations:

Exercise more...I love yoga, but that plank position kicks my butt...well actually my wrists.

Eat less crap...like nasty fast food and less than quality chocolate...is that the new SNOB Diet? ;)

Take less crap from stupid people.

Quit beating myself up about shit I have no control over.
