Detroit on a Dime

The weekend went very well. Kyle and I drove to see Joe and the MEC crew in Michigan on Friday. We were doing fine till we got to a section on 696 that was under contruction and was also the detour for another road under constuction. It took us an hour to get about 10 miles. We finally arrived in Ferndale at about 8:30 pm. After a much needed pee break, Joe drove us to get dinner at Buca di Beppo on Woodward Ave in Birmingham. Oh this is so my new favorite Italian resturant. It had fabulous food and some of the craziest Italian themed decor all over the place. My favorite picture has to be the Statue of David wearing cutoff jeans and a baseball cap. I found out yesterday from Jason that there are three of these resturants in Indy!!!!!

Saturday we went to the MEC picnic. Lots of food and crazy people. I taught a belly dance class under a tree. Jane and I plotted and planned for programming for next years Convocation. I think I'm teaching four classes, doing one sword dance and spinning poi demo, and hosting a reiki detox sunday clinic. Good grief Charlie Brown!

After the picnic, we drove back to Joe's house to pick up the Evil chocolate cake and went to Wiggin's birthday party. I actually spent time with those dirty little small versions of adults and got to learn some new poi spins. I got hit on by lots of lesbians and bisexual women...I think the guys have given up. Smoke everywhere in a poorly ventilated basement equals stuffed up nose and poor breathing conditions...someday I'm going to remember this. Apparently the seven deadly sins cake name has been taken...so I'm sticking with Kat's Evil Chocolate Cake, of course almost everyone offered me their souls for the recipe... Muhahaa. We got back to bed at about 3 am and crashed till mid morning. I'm getting the stamina of an old lady...can't party like its 1999 anymore...so sad.

We dropped Joe off at the airport as he was catching a flight to Virginia to see his sister graduate from high school. Kyle and I were in cranky mode so we practically pushed him out the door at the airport...tuck and roll grandma! We just wanted to get home at a decent hour to get other stuff done. We encountered the great forces of nature somewhere on highway 24. We stopped at a podunk gas station as it was just starting to rain and hail. While avoiding the garbage can moving gusts of wind, Kyle pumped the gas after the pump recovered from a power failure as I watched the sky for tornados. We got back on the road hoping it would be easier to avoid any tornados while driving rather than huddle in a 20'x20' size gas station enclosed with mostly glass. We looked for flying cows and said more than a few quotes from Twister. "The rabbit is good the rabbit is wise."..."Cow...another cow...I think that was the same cow."

We got home in one piece...I keep forgetting about the weather safety net that's in Lafayette...the Wabash river valley keeps most of the tornados out of our area, but the rest of Indiana is still in that whole tornado alley thing. I crashed out on the couch for the rest of the evening...I still haven't unpacked yet... :)
